Sarawak ART Project: Premier Abang Johari Expresses Concerns Over 35% Completion Rate (2026)

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg expressed his dissatisfaction with the progress of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project, which has only reached a 35% completion rate. Despite the project's strategic importance to the state, the premier emphasized the need for careful implementation and adherence to planning. During his visit to the ART Central Station construction site, Abang Johari highlighted the project's potential to serve as the main urban transport hub, similar to KL Sentral, and its role in connecting various strategic locations around Kuching City. However, he also expressed concern about the pace of progress and the need to avoid issues that occurred in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur. The premier stressed the importance of early modernization and proper planning to preserve heritage while addressing land ownership and inheritance concerns. The ART project, which includes the green line connecting government offices in Petra Jaya, aims to provide efficient and sustainable transportation options for the public.
