MCU Star Tessa Thompson Teases Valkyrie's Return in Avengers: Doomsday! (2026)

The excitement surrounding "Avengers: Doomsday" is palpable, even though the film won't premiere in theaters until December. This surge of enthusiasm can be attributed to the recent unveiling of four tantalizing teasers, which reintroduce beloved characters such as Captain America and Thor.

As the 39th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this film promises a star-studded ensemble that includes notable names like Pedro Pascal, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Ian McKellen, and the always-popular Robert Downey Jr.

However, fans are eagerly anticipating the potential return of another favorite from the MCU — Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie. The last time viewers saw Valkyrie was in a brief appearance during 2023's "The Marvels," where she assisted Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larson) by escorting a group of Skrull refugees back to New Asgard.

In a recent discussion on The Playlist's Bingeworthy podcast, Thompson was queried about her involvement in "Doomsday." While she refrained from confirming her participation in the film, her response was intriguing; she did not outright deny it either.

"Oh, [I’m] not able to confirm anything," Thompson stated during the interview.

When probed further about aspects of Valkyrie she might still wish to explore within the Marvel Universe, Thompson opened up, expressing her ongoing enthusiasm for the character. "Yeah, definitely. And I think this is the coolest thing about hanging out inside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: all the incredible people that you get to play with, both the incredible craftspeople that create these worlds, all the amazing directors that they invite into these spaces, and all of the incredible talent."

She continued, emphasizing the diverse storytelling possibilities within Marvel films: "And also, I think there are so many tonal spaces you can go to inside of a Marvel movie. You can explore drama and comedy, and there’s so much to do. And I just love the character so much that I would always be interested. For sure."

Fans will have to wait until December 18, 2026, for the official release of "Avengers: Doomsday."
